What to Wear for your Spring Session | Dallas, TX Family Photography

Spring Sessions are just around the corner! And yes, I know it can be a bit overwhelming to get all the outfits together! I am sharing tips for planning your spring photo-worthy wardrobe; as well as, a few outfits for the whole family!

  1. Start early! Look now for your Spring wardrobe. It is always best to begin looking as early as possible. You never want to wait until the last minute to put your wardrobe together. This only makes us mama’s a bit more stressed!

  2. Mama, start with you! Yes, it is always best to start with the women of the group. Mama’s you can some times be the pickiest. Find a flowy dress, cute top and white pants, or skirt and top combo. I particularly think dresses are prettiest and most flattering for pictures, but that’s not to say I have some of my favorite pictures in a top and white jeans combo! You want whatever you choose to be flattering and make YOU feel good! I may ask you to sit or bend down, so make sure you feel comfortable doing this in your outfit!

  3. Coordinate. Yes, I did say COORDINATE not matching! We want the family to be coordinating wearing like colors and a pattern or two, but not all in those old traditional photos where everyone is matching. A coordinating wardrobe will last a lifetime! Do you have siblings that you want to match? Yes, you can do that, just try to have the family coordinate.

  4. Lay it all out. I always suggest for clients to layout all the clothes. See if they look like they go well together. This way you can switch out options if you have multiple outfits for a child or you. I personally like to lay them on a simple, clean background like the floor to have all the distractions out of the way.

  5. Try it on! Mama, make sure that dress fits or that those cute little outfits tucked away for the kiddos aren’t too small! It’s always good to try them on before hand in case you have to make a change. Also, don’t forget the shoes! Yes, you want to make sure the kids shoes fit before your pictures or they may not want to wear them! But hey, I love a good barefoot picture too, so I am okay with no shoes on the kiddos!

Lastly, if you are client, I am always happy to help with your wardrobe selections or ideas! Just reach out, send me an email and I would be more than happy to help guide you as you put your outfits together!

Three Things to Know About Your Family Session | Richardson, TX Family Photography

Why do you book a family session? Is it for Christmas cards? Do you just want to update your family photos? Or is it to capture your family and kids in the stage you are currently in?

There are so many reasons why people get updated photos each year, many just want a picture for their Christmas cards while others really want to capture this season of life. For me, it is important to capture the season of life rather it be in the Spring or Fall. I want to remember the crazy that is our family.

Family sessions can be fun!

Yes, as a lifestyle photographer, I want to make your session fun! A portrait session consists of your traditional family photograph; as well as, the candid images of you playing with your little ones. We run, walk together, bring out toys and bring out all the things to get the genuine smiles from your family.

When is the best time to do a family session?

For me I love the Spring! The flowers are blooming, the colors are simple, clean and neutral. The weather is still gorgeous and summer heat hasn’t hit yet. You aren’t sweating while trying to chase your little ones. Plus, the craziness of Fall hasn’t set in. Bonus, you have plenty of time to find the perfect Christmas cards!

What if my kids are having a hard day?

That’s why we play! A full hour session also allows your kids to warm up to me, and get a little more comfortable with their surroundings. Truth, we did pictures for our son’s 2 year birthday. Very few smiles came out that day. We played, tickled and got just enough for this Mama! Come to find out, he had 100+ fever and an ear infection coming on. But these pictures are still some of my favorites! We can make it work!

Hayes | Westlake, TX Portrait Photography

I am one of those photographer’s that has a set of locations where I shoot outdoors. However, every once in a while a client will pull me from my norm and ask me to do a session in a location that is special to them. This was one of those sessions!

It challenges me. Pulls out my creativity. And allows me to see the beauty in a new location. This gorgeous spot was a family members backyard!

Ya’ll, I typically show up to these sessions like I am on a blind date. Sometimes I see picture beforehand, if we can, but it doesn’t always work out to be able to plan exactly where we may photograph. Plus, through in overcast skies, a bit of rain (where we had to take a break), heat, and all things social distancing right now!

Handsome little Hayes was a trooper! His first birthday pictures are precious and this little guy decided to show us his tongue for most of the session, but he’s 1!
